Research Scientist, Product Engineering, Beauty and Personal Care based in BangaloreUnilever is the market leader in Skin Cleansing (SCL) area with Dove, Lifebuoy and Lux as the major brands of its Beauty & Personal Care divison. Product Engineering (PE) is one of the Science and Technology platforms within the Beauty & Personal Care (BPC) R&D organization. Its purpose is to translate relevant science generated both internally and externally into real skin cleansing and care product formats, based on expertise in material science, emulsion science, processing, surface science, and product interaction with biological surfaces. The PE platform is also responsible for driving programs to meet Unilever s ambition of sustainable products through sustainable sourcing and alternative & sustainable materials.This role will contribute to the development of new skin cleansing and hygiene products with superior functionality and novel claims through an understanding and manipulation of molecular interactions and structures. The work will involve generating insights about the relationships between formulation, actives, process, product microstructure, and performance, and will involve interacting with experts in each of these areas.MAIN JOB PURPOSE:The job holder will be part of an integrated, cross-laboratory team responsible for creating and driving innovation in skin cleansing product science and engineering. Their primary responsibility will be in the creation, evaluation and possible scale-up of novel formulations in bar formats.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• S(he) will work with Design and S&T project leaders and science area leaders to explore current and novel technologies for the development of innovative products, based on a working knowledge of the various functional materials used to formulate personal care products
• Establish various analytical and microstructure characterization techniques to generate insights and guide product development
• Identify and manage projects/interactions with internal/external partners, especially serving to build a 3P/cross laboratory network of relevant product characterization capabilities critical to the Product Engineering skill bases
• Design and conduct experiments at laboratory scale to identify product design rules relevant to specific projects
• Manage the transition of the technology from the Science and Technology platform to the Design teams
• Actively contribute to multiple projects, prioritizing activities to meet critical business timings
• Understand consumer needs and translate this understanding into technical approaches for innovative skin cleansing and care products with new benefits

KEY REQUIREMENTSS(he) will display the ability to plan and organize her/his own work and will be expected to record findings in a clear and effective manner in computer-based lab notebooks and structured digital formats.S(he) will be expected to communicate her/his experimental findings during informal project team meetings. S(eh) will be given the opportunity to interpret findings, present and argue hypotheses to account for your observations, and s(he) will be encouraged to take an active role in scientific debate within the project team

• An undergraduate degree (minimum) in Chemistry or Chemical Engineering, with a basic understanding of the physical science bases underpinning personal care products.
• 5-9 years of product-centric industrial experience in relevant areas such as material science, surface science and/or process engineering.
• Strong skills and awareness of a broad range of analytical capabilities relevant to product characterization with demonstrated experience in the application of these skills to new insights and measurements preferred
• Working knowledge of surfactant/colloid science, phase behavior, and soft solids to enable linking measurements to product design rules would be a plus
• Proven track record of creative scientific problem-solving skills
• Team Player with a good Bias for Action and a Growth Mindset
