Institute of Public Health, Bengaluru (IPH) is a premier multidisciplinary academic research institute in India engaged in public health research, education and policy engagement. Who are we looking for The cluster on Chronic Health Conditions & Public Policies at IPH focuses on studying how public policies shape prevention and management of chronic health conditions and their major risk factors. We are looking for motivated researchers to join the cluster to work on a research study that aims to understand the implementation of tobacco control laws in India. The study proposes to use a mixed- methods approach and a range of techniques (case studies, thematic qualitative analysis, theory driven inquiry methods) to understand facilitators and barriers for implementation of tobacco control policies in Indian states. We are looking for the position of a research officer who will work closely with the Principal Investigator. Essential requirements Candidates should have a postgraduate degree in health sciences. Candidates should be comfortable with the use of all basic computer programs (Word, Excel, Powerpoint). We are looking for at least one two years of research experience and good familiarity with and reasonable expertise in quantitative and/ or qualitative research methods. We require candidates to have published a few papers in peer reviewed journals as first/ second author. Excellent (written and oral) communication skills in English and at least one (preferably more) regional languages is required. Candidates should be comfortable and desirous of working in multicultural team environment including with people from very different disciplines/ worldviews. IPH is a learning organization and we expect candidates to be keen to read/ learn newer approaches/ skills on the job. Desirable requirements Any previous experience of working on implementation of any government laws or programs will be favourable. This position is based in IPH Bengaluru office The contract will be for one year (with a probation period of 3 months) to begin with and there will possibility for review/ renewal This is a Research Officer level position at IPH and pay will be commensurate with the candidate s skills and experience and will be Rs.35, 000 Rs.40, 000 (CTC) per month as per IPH salary policy. Job description Research Officer will need to: work with a team of 2- 3 people and will report to the Principal Investigator. contribute to conceiving the design, collecting data and analysing data for specific aspects of the overall study. take up managerial role, in part, for specific aspects of the study as well as the overall project administration. need to make travel/ stay at some Indian states for work/ data collection during certain phases of the study. liaise with varied stakeholders (academia, governments, civil society etc.) to understand their interests and establish strategic relations. take lead role and contribute in scientific and popular writing. participate in and represent study/ project interests at academic/ learning opportunities available at IPH and other relevant fora.
