Job Description

As a Cost Reduction Project Leader, you will be the key communicator for multiple projects including Product and Process Development. This includes the interface with Suppliers, Purchasing, Engineering and any other relevant areas in the business and ensure early supplier collaboration on design, manufacturability, assembly, cost and quality. This position is responsible for the planning and execution of all activities associated with project delivery including cost modeling, validation and VA/VE whilst adhering to all internal business processes and maximize cost reduction opportunities.Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:*The objective of this position is to lead teams through the identification, evaluation and execution of cost reduction opportunities to meet Business Unit cost objectives. *Lead a cross functional project teams in trade off discussions (negotiations / compromises) to balance performance, quality, velocity, and cost. The cross-functional teams could include (employees from quality, service, design, manufacturing, etc.). *Manage multiple simple to moderate CRIPTIC component projects as well as simple Strategic Cost Management projects. *Ensure the development, analysis, and documentation of cost information for new product development, design, cost improvement, make versus buy, and other special projects. *Use of a proactive approach and good analytical skills to influence others and resolve conflict that may arise between processes, objectives, or solutions. *Predict potential issues and initiate appropriate mitigating actions. *Make team member recommendations *Provides leadership and act as the key communicator for Collaborative Product and Process Development. *Direct teams to interface with Suppliers and Purchasing to ensure early collaboration on design for Manufacturability, Assembly and Cost. *Set priorities and establish a work plan in order to complete defined assignments and achieve desired results. *Beyond the completion of its own work, the position assigns and reviews the day-to-day work of other employees. *Typical internal customers include purchasing, engineering, finance and product management. The positions primary customers are internal. *Travel will be required periodically., Required Qualifications:*A technical background - engineering, manufacturing or commercial - with a high level of product knowledge. In most cases, these are individuals with a minimum of 4 years of experience in a suitable environment. *A degree or equivalent experience, progressively responsible job-related. *Good understanding of company policies and procedures related to manufacturing and engineering *Basic level of understanding and knowledge of manufacturing processes. *Change management experience *Excellent interpersonal skills are required in order to deal with sensitive issues, develop others, or persuade others inside and outside the department to take specific actions.Desired Qualifications:* Experienced 6 Sigma Green BeltCaterpillar is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EEO)EEO/AA Employer.
