*When you are a 6 Sigma Black Belt at Caterpillar, you will lead project teams to improve critical business processes that drive financial results. You will scope very complex projects, develop project plans and business cases. You will also recruit, train, and lead project team members.Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:* Train and lead improvement project teams. * Lead projects with average savings per projects of $250,000 and concurrently lead 3-5 projects of this magnitude. The majority of these projects will be very complex and will typically involve efforts across many functional areas within a Business Unit and often across multiple Business Units. * Lead projects where the subject focus and solution are highly complex in nature, availability, and attainability. Lead improvement projects within the value center and effectively coordinate these projects with the Project Sponsor and other improvement project teams. Project leadership includes identifying opportunities, defining and financially justifying projects, launching project teams, using good project management to manage team activities, leading teams to execute projects using Design of Experiments and other methodology, tracking project status and results, removing and elevating project barriers, and developing team members. It is also critical to identify integration issues with other projects/processes and coordinate the improvements with the appropriate project/process owners to accomplish the project goals. * Measure results. Manage the development and maintenance of methods and systems for measuring the degree to which the project goals, objectives and metrics are being met. Provide Project Sponsor with the results and take corrective project action as required to improve on results below target. * Recruit and train team members. Identify potential Black Belts and recruit team members in the 6 Sigma infrastructure. Provide necessary training and coaching to team members to spread the base of 6 Sigma Problem Solving tools. * Integrate improvement projects. Ensure projects are integrated with other business activities, improvement projects, and business strategy. * Communicate. Ensure multi-channel communication throughout the organization. This includes keeping the Project Sponsor informed of program status and ensuring coordination of activities with other Black Belts. Also, this includes capturing project case histories that can be re-used for other projects. Provide quantitative data indicating the scope of the operation including current year and forecast sales, net income, total assets controlled, number of personnel, operating budget, and any other quantitative factors which describe the scope of the operation. * Have a significant impact on the success of 6 Sigma. The improvements will improve the company s ability to meet customer expectations, improve quality, reduce cycle times, reduce cost and increase profits. Experienced Black Belts will be capable of leading projects that contribute at least $1 million in incremental profit per year. * Be a results oriented change agent who is an effective business systems thinker. * Be able to manage risk and ambiguity on a project., *Required Qualifications:* Hold a Bachelors Degree, preferably in Engineering or Business or an equivalent level of work experience. * 8+ years of professional level experience. * Demonstrated excellent project management skills, team leadership skills, and excellent communication skills. * Knowledge of other functions that provide inputs regularly, i.e., Product Development, Engineering, Quality, Purchasing, Manufacturing, Accounting, Human Resources, and Operations. * Ability to learn and do statistical analysis and have basic computer skills.Desired Qualifications:* Prior supervisory experience * Familiar with company policies and procedures with a strong department background. * Able to build strong relationships with various stakeholders.Caterpillar is an Equal Opportunity Employer (EEO)EEO/AA Employer.
