If you think the open position you see is right for you, we encourage you to apply!Our people make all the difference in our success.The Human Factors and User Experience Design Lead Engineer is a technical position that is part of the Human Factors and User Experience Design (HFUXD) team within the Medication Delivery Solutions (MDS) Center of Excellence (COE). The goal of the COE is to stimulate and lead concept and technology innovation spanning all MDS product platforms and business groups. The role of HFUXD within this team is bring knowledge and expertise in user-centered design that begins with the initiation of programs and transitions into design and development.The HFUXD Lead Engineer will work on global cross-functional teams to advance key programs and initiatives across MDS with minimal to no oversight. The responsibilities can include but are not limited to:

• Usability Testing including generative, formative, and summative human factors validation testing with ability to create and execute usability plans, interview/discussion guides, note taking forms, participant agreements, screeners, and reports using quantitative and qualitative data research and analysis methods.
• Human Factors & Ergonomics Assessment including utilization of anthropometry, biomechanics, and human capability data as well as literature, competitive, or legacy product review, expert review, and heuristic analysis.
• User Needs and Requirements distillation from voice of customer and observational data to testable requirements that can undergo design validation.
• User Risk Analysis including root cause analysis of usability deliverables and testing that aim to mitigate risk as part of a user-centered design process.
• Design Thinking & Usability Engineering Tools including creation and/or update of user profiles, environmental characterization, workflow mapping, task analysis, functional modeling, and use scenarios as well as participation in workshops focused on user needs distillation, concept ideation, and problem solving.
• Design of Digital & Physical User Interfaces including but not limited to devices, software, packaging, instructions, and training utilizing low to high fidelity methods to power quick turn user-centric design.
• Usability Engineering File support for new product development and sustaining or legacy products including but not limited to executing deliverables and closing gaps as part of MDR.
• HFUXD Coaching & Collaboration Driver for the Human Factors and User Experience Design Team. Helping to coach associates within and outside of the HFUXD team in the theory and practice of HFUXD as well as ensuring that the HFUXD culture drives to encourage collaboration, brainstorming, and challenge to arrive at superior user-centered solutions.

Qualifications:

• 4 years Bachelor s Degree in a technical or user-centered design field (mechanical engineering or industrial design preferred). An advanced degree is desired.
• A minimum of 6-8 years of post-educational professional experience in a user-centered design role (medical device preferred).
• At least 2 years of experience leading projects and/or workstreams related to human factors and user experience design with minimal to no oversight.
• Working knowledge of applicable standards and industry guidance for medical devices and usability engineering including IEC 62366-1, FDA Guidance for Human Factors (2016), ISO 13485, FDA Guidance for Design Controls, ISO 14971.
• Experience designing, executing, and analyzing usability studies (moderating usability studies in the United States or in other countries around the globe is preferred).
• Experience translating HFUXD findings into user-needs/requirements, use related risk, and/or design solutions related to the user interface
• Experience working closely with remote and onsite team cross-functional members to create and execute usability deliverables.
• Proficient at least one of the following to support innovation, design, and development:
  • Sketching or Graphic Design
  • 3D Modeling, Drafting, and Physical Prototyping (SolidWorks preferred)
  • Wireframe and Digital Prototyping (Adobe XD and Axure preferred)
  • Technology Development in areas such as but not limited to Mechanical, Electrical, or Software Engineering
• Demonstrated creation of new concepts and Intellectual Property (IP) is desired
• Distinguished proficiency in English demonstrating skillful, accurate, efficient, and effective written and verbal communication skills, with ability to present complex ideas to multiple levels.
