Job Description

Background:Driven by the Beacon initiatives, functionalization of the corporate functions and re-alignment of the Finance Operating Model, State Street has established the Global Accounting Operations (GAO) organization in 2017. GAO is a process-focused organization responsible for the majority of the record-to-report (R2R) activities performed at State Street. Organizationally, it combines all groups performing these activities Globally and also includes Accounting Centers residing in State Street Shared Service locations in Poland, India and China. GAO organization is established on principles of Global Process Ownership and process excellence, owning all aspects of business-as-usual activities within R2R areas and driving process improvements and automation Globally.To achieve this objective, GAO has been structured into several distinct global units each is responsible for all aspects of selected major groups of R2R activities, such as Close & Consolidations, Revenue/Expense Accounting, Payroll Accounting, Intercompany Transactions, Specialized/Product Accounting, Cash/Deposit governance and others. Each global unit will be responsible for all aspects of business-as-usual activities within their group of processes, as well as process re-engineering and automation activities this includes leading process assessments; driving process design and process re-engineering work; co-owning technology initiatives bringing automation to GAO organization, working in close collaboration with the teams in Finance Technology, Finance Re-Engineering, Data Management, and other partnership organizations.Responsibilities & Tasks Include:The Officer- Client Profitability, provides subject matter knowledge in the assigned area primarily focused on performing detailed analytics, develops a thorough understanding of State Street s business practices to effectively perform independent, complex reporting or analytics to support the Client profitability and Expense allocation functions. The Officer will be working very closely with the team of specialists and other team members within Accounting and FP&A in performing a multitude of activities associated with the production of Client level profit and loss statements and variance analysis.Completion of high-quality deliverables within the committed timeframe. Deliverables vary by BU focus but typically relate to:

  • Leading revenue systems and reporting with correct allocation keys
  • Month/quarter/year-end client level P&L with required transparency
  • Revenue & Expense reviews and allocation methodologies
  • Coordinates and manages the preparation of quarterly profit and loss statements
  • Communicates with business units throughout the company to collect information for management reporting and analyses (e.g. Staffing and Service Department Allocations)
  • Independently resolving the queries on Profit and loss statement
  • Performs monthly, quarterly and annual reviews of processes and reports findings to management for process improvements
  • Serves as a subject matter expert, drive project, work streams to enhance processes and reporting
  • Work with the team on developing a sustainable reporting model that will provide a fair and accurate representation of Client P&L; Strengthening of existing controls and improve the existing systems and processes to provide the required analytical information within tight turnaround times.
  • Under Target operating model, accountable for in-depth understanding of the processes on Client Revenue and Expenses through liaison with SMEs in the team and responsible for variance analysis (MoM, QoQ, TTM) with detailed commentaries.
  • Process Re-engineering, Automation and Change management:
  • Spearheading ideation and development of multiple analytical dashboards providing transversal view of Client and product profitability including expense allocation methodologies.
  • Continuous process improvement by leveraging GAO ideation tools and its tracking
  • Working in close coordination with various internal stakeholders (LFOs/ CAOs/ FRIBS) and IT teams on multiple change projects.
Job Requirements:Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor s degree in Finance with 10 12 years of relevant experience or Master s with min 9 - 11 years of experience ideally covering multiple aspects of the following:
  • Accounting qualification (ACA/ ACCA/ CIMA/ CPA) would be a plus.
  • Allocation methodologies, drivers and coefficient that are used to fairly allocate revenue and expenses
  • Experience of building and maintaining strong control environment (risk excellence, experience with SOX, RCSA controls, etc.), establishing, procedures and strong internal controls.
  • Experience with cross geography R2R (record-to-report) centralized processes
  • Experience with gathering, preparation and Consolidation and summary of various data buckets like revenue, expense, headcount etc for multi-national companies
  • Multi-dimensional profitability (business, product, client)
  • Hand on working experience on Expense / Revenue allocations
  • Variance analysis and reporting of insights on a periodic basis with detailed commentaries.
  • Critical understanding of numbers and ability to analyze Revenue and expense trends at a product and client level and establish underlying themes.
  • Financial services industry experience is preferred.
Skills required:
  • This is a high visibility role. Excellent communication, organizational and presentation skills, and ability to present complex financial matters to management is required.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Word, Visio), advance levels of Excel (pivot tables, formulas, excel workbook maintenance best practices)
  • Working knowledge of Hyperion Profitability Cost Management, Hyperion Essbase/ Smartview.
  • Working knowledge of Spotfire, Tableau/ Cognos data analytics and visualization (or similar) a plus.
  • Conceptual understanding of company-wide financial architecture (GL, sub-GL technology, specialized tools) applicable to the above process groups of processes
  • Excellent communication skills, prior experience of interacting with multiple stakeholders (Legal Entity and Geography controllers) in NA, EMEA, APAC
  • Pride of ownership with the ability to deliver high quality results timely.
