We started off with Amazon Books, a brick-and-mortar store that offers a curated selection of books, and merchandise such as Amazon devices. We are getting ready to launch new products that will amaze and define how customers interact with us in a brick and mortar setting.The Role:We are looking for a Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) to join our team in building highly visible, robust automation tools and framework to tackle complex and hard to solve problems.As a hands-on SDET, you will make a large impact on dynamic, fast moving Amazon Physical Store team by improving efficiency and approach to testing. Working backwards from customer needs, you will identify the right sets of tools to build to achieve the best quality and customer experience. You will lead test automation efforts for critical and complex technical projects spanning multiple software and hardware teams and Amazon Stores. You will be responsible for driving improvements in test tools, test environments and reporting mechanisms as well as influence the implementation of the right solutions.As a Software Development champion on the engineering team, you will own the vision for test infrastructures, build frameworks that allow developers to easily write reliable tests, and invent new mechanisms for ensuring that every change we make can be deployed safely and quickly. You will help solve our most difficult challenges, and you will coach other engineers to foster a culture of relentless high-standards.The ideal candidate for this role has a strong track record and proficiency in building efficient and innovative test tools. They are a pragmatic problem-solver with high judgment who brings an experienced perspective to balance quality and strategy trade-offs to meet the needs of Physical Store teams, projects, and products. They will bring clarity to complexity, probing assumptions, illuminating pitfalls with data, and fostering shared understanding. They have specialized knowledge analyzing test procedures, inspecting architectures and developing test infrastructure and tools that provide confidence in product quality.The primary responsibilities for this role include: Envision, design and develop tools, frameworks and testing infrastructure to facilitate the testing by multiple teams and cross-functional engineers. This includes analyzing requirements, assessing testability, identifying automation opportunities and implementing them for projects where the work will be run by multiple businesses in parallel. Lead and actively participate in design review, test planning and tools reviews, aligning teams across organization towards coherent test tool strategy. Lead effort towards simplifying test tools and technologies in terms of efficiency, effectiveness stability, extensibility, and scalability. Actively participate in employee hiring and development process. Contribute to intellectual property (e.g., invent, submit patents, etc.)., Bachelor s Degree in Computer Science or related field. 5+ years relevant work experience. Experience in at least, one modern programming language such as C, C++, Python, Java. Familiarity with various software technologies, methodologies and applied software engineering practices/standards such as Object Oriented Design (OOD), cloud software development and embedded software. Familiarity with AWS products, Machine Learning and Artificial Intelligence. Automation experience (test, integration, build/release) in a distributed environment. Knowledge of data structures, algorithms, distributed systems, and asynchronous architecture. Understanding of system and application performance characteristics. Demonstrated ability to own, design, lead and implement test strategies for complex applications and deployment topologies. Demonstrated ability to communicate with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and create/explain/defend technical designs. Knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, build processes, testing, and operations. Experience in communicating with users, other technical teams, and management to collect requirements, describe software product features, and technical designs. Ability to work with technical and non-technical business owners.
