The Device OS team is responsible for the board bring up, low level software, core operating system architecture, innovative framework feature development, associated cloud services and end-to-end system functions that brings these devices to life. The software built by the Device OS team runs on all Amazon consumer electronics devices. The Device OS team also develops Amazon Common Software (ACS), a solution that makes it faster to develop devices that are transforming the smart home and run Amazon services like Alexa!Key job responsibilitiesAs a Senior Software Development Manager, you will build and lead a diverse team of engineers to solve complex technical problems that will enable us launch innovative experiences/devices faster and delight our customers. In this position you will partner with an assorted set of stakeholders, primarily senior tech leaders in the devices business like FireTV, AppStore, Tablets, Echo, Smart Home to highlight our strategic initiatives in the device solutions space and make them feel compelled to use our solutions in their products. You will influence the roadmap and technology decisions that will drive the adoption of our solutions. You will have a strong focus on keeping the operational excellence bar high while managing these solutions through defining key business metrics and auditing them regularly.You will be expected to have a strong technical ability, excellent project management skills, great communication skills, and a motivation to achieve results in a fast paced environment. You will be a motivator and an experienced leader who can hire high-caliber engineers and collaborate across organizations, with the ability to influence senior leadership.A day in the lifeIn this role, you will: Work with Product Management & cross organizational teams to build, integrate and ship solutions at scale Establish structures that enable your team to solve complex problems and build innovative solutions Provide hands-on tech leadership to team Instill best practices for software development and documentation, assure designs meet requirements and deliver high-quality work on tight schedules Manage team priorities, headcount projections, hiring ,mentoring and continuous performance evaluation Report on status of development, quality and operations to management Advise senior and executive management, 10+ years of relevant engineering experience 5+ years of experience, managing engineers and managers Experience in partnering with product and program management teams BS/MS in Computer Science or equivalent Experience in building consumer devices and/or highly scalable web software services/solutions or game streaming solutions Deep experience in Linux/Android, C++, Java Experience in embedded software development Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to executives and non-technical leaders Excellent judgment, organizational and problem solving skills You are extremely technical and have significant experience developing scalable web applications, device software, and networking middleware, with a penchant for building elegant and maintainable systems that get the job done with minimal complexity. You have excellent interpersonal skills and enjoy working in a highly iterative, agile, and open team environment. You build the right product for your customers and pride yourself on delivering products on-time against deadlines. Deep hands-on technical expertise. Ability to handle multiple competing priorities in a fast-paced environment. A deep understanding of cross-functional multiple-team based software development. A strong business and technical vision and the ability to translate these in business and technical approaches, and lead engineering efforts to meet aggressive timelines with optimal solutions
