With more than 3.500 patent families essential for 5G we have a strong 5G portfolio and are a front runner in open and virtualized radio access networks (O-RAN and vRAN).Nokia is a leader in vRAN solution working towards O-RAN compliant solutions. The Cloud RAN architecture team works on E2E cloud RAN solution definition as well as on the detailed architecture specifications of CU and DU network components. We work on CU/vDU CNF architecture for service resilience, scalability, lifecycle management, networking connectivity, capacity, and performance. On E2E level we work on radio site solutions, O-RAN compliance esp. on the fronthaul, HW/data center solution, slicing etc. What you will learn and contribute toAre you passionate about solving problems As part of our team, you will:

  • be an Individual contributor working on 5G Cloud RAN system architecture and feasibility studies on forward looking topics
  • Work on vCU/vDU architecture evolution including scalibility, High availability and cloud native constructs
  • Work involves both Cloud RAN system level and vDU (virtualized DU) / vCU CNF architecture
  • evaluate vendor/partner offerings (NIC, HW accelerators for crypto or L1, switches, synchronization solutions) to best fit the Nokia Cloud RAN architecture. This includes vendor discussions as well or push them to implement new features.
  • work closely with Product Management and customer teams on gathering customer needs on one hand, and with SW architects and HW/infrastructure architects to bring together the needed vCU/vDU architecture and deployment options
Your skills and experience
  • Background on LTE/5G RAN - concepts of network architecture and radio protocols/procedures
  • Knowledge of Kubernetes, Dockers, Helm, either as SW developer or in solution architecture role
  • Awareness of RRM concepts e.g. TDD/FDD L1 frame structures, mMIMO, Beamforming features will be very useful
  • Work experience on any RAN protocol SW development is added value, especially in distributed computing environment like cloud or multiple server architecture
  • Good learnability, flexibility (in taking tasks), super collaborator
  • Innovative and dare to take (intelligent) risks - the Cloud RAN & O-RAN concepts are still in developing stage and few things need to be invented and tried, no easy ready-made fit-all solutions
  • The role requires to collaborate with global virtual teams (US/ EU and China TZ) clear & concise communication is important
