We partner with the business and other IT groups to define, manage, test, validate and deliver the strategic direction and operational performance of Enterprise Applications and Systems for Thermo Fisher Scientific.About the role:The Secure Operations team was implemented to provide Thermo Fisher Scientific organization the ability to oversee a complex global application and infrastructure environment that requires high availability. The ITOC (Information Technology Operations Center) team is monitoring the real-time dashboards and performing first touch remediation where supported. Where not supported the team is accountable for confirming that the proper attention is being applied to each of the events by the overall STO (Secure Technology & Operations) organization and escalations are being made properly to the Major Incident Management team where warranted.Key Responsibilities

  • ITOC Engineers resolve any issues related to the servers, networks and telecommunications by consistently troubleshooting and monitoring.
  • The skills required for an ITOC, include Infrastructure support, administration and management, along with Network, Linux, Windows and Mainframe environments.
  • Troubleshooting and Resolution: Being an ITOC Engineer means they are in accountable to resolving all issues concerning the IT services. The Engineer uses standard procedures to troubleshoot and resolve any issues concerning the Infrastructure. They are always working with other IT teams, customers and vendors to enhance the delivery of the service.
  • Alarm Handling and Escalation: The ITOC engineer s principle role is troubleshooting all the technical and quality related issues. In some instances, the issues are far too complex to be fixed quickly. This is when the ITOC engineer must approach the Subject matter experts for assistance.
  • They must maintain communication with the vendors and the team to ensure they remain updated on any issues in their domains.
  • Client Interaction: Being a ITOC engineer means they must regularly interact with the Internal customers and support teams. They must treat the stakeholders with diplomacy and
  • politeness. They must handle both the non-technical and technical requirements for the customer.
  • Support metrics to demonstrate compliance with agreed service levels and team / individual contributions.
  • Taking on new opportunities and tough challenges with a sense of urgency, high energy and enthusiasm.
  • Establish and adhere to budgets, schedules, work plans and performance requirements.
  • Comply with company s Global IT Policies & Procedures.
QualificationsThe successful candidate for this position will possess the following combination of education and experience:
  • Bachelor s degree in information technology or Computer Science And/or equivalent work experience in similar fields.
  • Strong writing skills to maintain organized documentation
  • Customer-oriented, and capable of providing high levels of client satisfaction
  • 3-5 years of experience in Global operational Infrastructure areas. Including Network, Windows, Unix, and/or Mainframe performing hands-on IT Infrastructure & Application troubleshooting.
  • Must be able to translate technical issues into clear and concise descriptions and explanations that are understandable and actionable for a broad audience with varying technical or business backgrounds.
  • Self-motivated, with key strengths in initiative, dependability and teamwork.
  • Five years of prior paid professional experience supporting and maintaining specific infrastructure area. Examples include Network Infrastructure, Server hardware and operating systems, either Unix/Linux or Windows, in an enterprise environment.
  • Background and experience working in an enterprise environment with Service Management disciplines, inclusive of Request, Incident, Problem and Change processes.
  • Experience in Monitoring Solutions for the infrastructure.
  • Experience in a cloud computing platform and the associated automation patterns it provides
  • Experience in an object-oriented programming language (preferably Python, Java or PowerShell)
  • Creating meaningful dashboards, logging, alerting, and responses to ensure that issues are captured and addressed proactively.
  • Self-motivated, enthusiastic, and able to handle multiple support cases
  • Ability to work calmly through high-pressure situations.
Work Schedule
  • Monday through Friday 8:00AM to 5:00PM.
  • May be required to work after-hours and weekends as needed
  • On call coverage (This is expected to be very low percentage of time)
  • Ability to travel to other sites if needed (this is expected to be a very low percentage of time)
