Job Description

DESCRIPTION:Works with internal and external organizations to develop, plan and write/edit internal and external technical documentation. Work requires use of the appropriate editorial/logical methodologies and process management. Ensures that documentation is written in a manner that customers with limited to highly proficient technical product knowledge can understand and use the material. Partners with different internal stakeholders to complete various documentation needs for the various lines of business.Principal Accountabilities- Writes, edits and proofs hardcopy and online documents for consistency. Examples: reference documents for hardware and software products, code, user interface tests, white papers, Application Program Interface and Command Line Interface Documentation, online help systems.- Ensures all deliverables are technically and mechanically accurate.- Collaborates with department team members, engineering, marketing, services, legal, regulatory and others to develop content for standard documentation sets, software and special initiatives in-line with the development cycle.- Creates and manages document schedules, content management, and information architecture.- Defines processes for content modification, content globalization, content sensitivity, content accessibility / disability (508).- Maintains content, tools, application access, account administration, and workflow administration.- More experienced writers may train outside business groups as needed on tools, applications, reporting, and content workflow needs.- Defines, ratifies, documents and monitors Dell documentation management processes and procedures to comply with ISO and internal quality standards.Knowledge- Understands and applies principles, concepts, theories, technologies and standards of professional field.- Develops and applies specialized knowledge within own discipline.- Deepens knowledge through exposure to new assignments and continuous learning.- Knowledge of related industry considerations.- Good working knowledge and demonstrated ability utilizing systems, tools and procedures to accomplish job.- Builds deeper understanding of processes, procedures, customers and organization.- Assists program or process development and implementation.- Coordinates activities and processes.Problem Solving- Applies research, information gathering and analytical and interpretation skills to problems of diverse scope. - Develops solutions to a variety of problems of moderate complexity.- Screens, categorizes, evaluates, reconciles, reports and resolves data integrity issues.- Interprets generally defined practices and methods. - Recognizes and acts on inconsistencies in data or results and escalates unusual problems.- Identifies issues beyond stated situation.- Works on assignments where moderate judgment and initiative are required in resolving problems and making choices, recommendations, or decisions.- Regularly exercises discretion and judgment on business matters in consultation with senior team members.Guidance- Works under general direction.- Work is guided by objectives of the area or assignment. - Refers to established policies and precedents as needed.- Applies discretion and independent judgment to identify when deviation from standard practice is required with prior approval.- May set project timeframes and priorities based on project objectives and ongoing assignments.- Assumes responsibility to improve service, efficiency and quality of work.- When assigned to a customer team, actively participates on small to medium sized project teams in support of customer deliverables.RelationshipsContributes to area by ensuring quality of output.- Contributes to the completion of milestones associated with specific projects or activities within own area.- Establishes working relationships with others outside area of expertise.- Applies knowledge and understanding of customer needs and other internal/external contacts.SkillsUnderstands goals and strategies necessary for achieving high standards while still meeting deadlines and keeping costs down.- Exhibits advanced knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation.- Understanding of the need to set multiple priorities and goals.- Has good understanding and knowledge of technical writing and editing.- Dedicated to meeting the expectations and requirements of internal and external customers.QUALIFICATION:Experience6-8 years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and work experience.EducationGraduate ,
