Cloud Data Engineer _ Subject Matter Expert (SME)

Job Purpose

Trimble Cloud xOps is executing a project to build a custom cloud usage platform and is looking for a savvy Data Engineer to join our team. The Engineer will advise on architecture, and build the ETL pipeline and Reporting to enable granular visibility into Trimble s cloud usage, costs, and assets.

The ideal candidate is an experienced data pipeline builder and data wrangler who enjoys optimizing data systems and building them from the ground up. They must be self-directed and comfortable supporting the data needs of multiple teams, systems, and products. The right candidate will be excited by the prospect of learning new technologies and approaches, as well as providing technical leadership to a small project team.

Main Responsibilities

• Create and evolve optimal ETL data pipeline architecture to transform/visualize AWS usage data

• Create and evolve reusable BI reporting and analytics to support business requirements

• Assemble large, complex data sets that meet functional / non-functional business requirements.

• Identify, design, and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability, etc.

• Build the infrastructure required for optimal extraction, transformation, and loading of data from a wide variety of data sources using SQL and other big data technologies.

• Build analytics tools that utilize the data pipeline to provide actionable insights into cloud usage and costs, operational efficiency, and other key business performance metrics.

• Work with stakeholders including the Executive, Product, Data, and Design teams to assist with data-related technical requirements and support their data infrastructure needs.

• Create data tools for analytics and data scientist team members that assist them in building and optimizing the products

• Available to meet and overlap work hours during US time zones as needed.

• The position will be based in our Chennai office, but able to work remotely in India during COVID-19.

Skillsets

• Good understanding of operating systems principles, software architectures, software algorithms, software engineering principles, and software engineering tools like Jira and Git.

• Expertise in validating BI + big data solutions to ensure correctness

• Expertise at least one of the RDBMS: MySQL/MSSQL/Oracle,etc

• Working knowledge of AWS, including security principles.

• Exposure to AWS Cost and Usage Reports

• Expertise in ETL tools, preferably AWS Glue and Athena, or Hadoop/Hive/Spark, ElasticSearch.

• Experience with Business Intelligence and Analytics tools, Domo preferred

• Ability to script various data pipeline steps to automate the full solution, preferably in Python

• Good analytical and problem-solving skills, as well as the ability to quickly and independently learn about and apply new technologies.

• Experience being a technical lead on a project, assigning tasks to more junior team members and making sure they are done correctly, on schedule.

• Excellent English communication and interpersonal skills.

• Upbeat, highly motivated and self-starter.

Qualifications & Experience

• B.E / B.Tech or M.E / M.Tech / M.S. in Computer Engineering or an equivalent degree with a good JEE / AIEEE / GATE score.

• Minimum 5 years of direct ETL and BI experience

• A good score in any of the national level Olympiads or talent search examinations will be value addition.

• Paper presentation in a national level forum, contribution to open source projects, contribution to standards bodies will be value addition.
