Together, we re pioneering the future of science and medicine, developing products that enable researchers in the fight to save lives.The NG S Field Application Scientist Automation (FAS) provides technical field support for IDT s Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) customers regarding product design, training, and end use with a focus on automating IDT products on the customer s liquid handling platform. Our FAS team assists Sales to identify, convert and support potential or existing NGS users. The field team advocates for the voice of customer to collaborate with internal cross-functional teams for future NGS product development.This position is part of the Sales organization and will be remote based out of the West Coast or Central US . • Provide application support for pre- and post- sales activities for IDT s xGen Next Generation Sequencing product line.
• Provide development support for customization of NGS library preparation and target enrichment workflows on customer liquid handling workstations.
• Collaborate with automation vendors and key customers to co-develop workflow solutions.
• Represent IDT s NGS products to the molecular biology community at large, including communicating established technologies at industry trade shows.
• Provide support for new emerging NGS applications in which xGen products may be employed.
• Stay abreast of the latest trends in the NGS field via literature and vendor networking.
• Create appropriate customized and/or creative solutions when adapting the IDT workflows to automation systems, particularly when troubleshooting.
• Assist with in-house automated liquid handling systems and IDT facilities using them.
Key Responsibilities:
• Extensive regional travel (35-50% time) to work in the field with Sales, support NGS customers remotely and onsite, implement protocols, and troubleshoot.
• Design, script, and customize workflows, perform protocol verification, optimization, and reporting to key stakeholders.
• Lead automation support for the Americas sales team in technical customer discussions of robotic automation systems running IDT workflows.
Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelors/MS/Ph.D. in Molecular Biology, Biochemistry, Software/Computer Engineering, or related field
• Minimum of 3 years hands on experience in NGS with a focus on one or more of these automation platforms: Hamilton, PerkinElmer
• 3 years experience with coding languages such as Java, Visual Basics, HTML.
• 3 years hands on experience with next generation sequencing library preparation and target enrichment
• Requires flexibility in working hours to support multiple time zones
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills
It would be a plus if you also possess previous experience in:
• Experience with other automation platforms (Agilent Bravo, EPMotion, Opentrons etc.)
• Familiarity with using SalesForce.com
• Experience coding in Python
• Experience using remote connectivity software and virtual machines (TeamViewer, VMWare)
