Job Description

As Formatter - Translations you will be accountable for preparing and finalizing documents for submission to client for patent application filing, collaborating with the Translations Linguistic and Project Coordination teams to ensure the correct output. You ll play an integral role in executing our strategy for development and future growth by ensuring that documents are correctly processed to be handled by our Translation Management System and CAT (Computer Assisted Translation) tools.The Content Operations Translations team processes over 15,000 patent applications each year from across the globe, providing customers with accurate translations to be filed and protect their innovations and inventions. Duties and responsibilities:Pre-Translation

  • Convert PDF into editable readable format using OCR tools, reviewing output to eliminate errors and correct formatting to ensure sentence structure is complete for segmentation within the CAT tool.
  • Create tables of text where diagrams and other items may not be correctly handled by the OCR tool.
  • Key in missing data as necessary so the editable document includes all content from the PDF file.
Post-translation
  • Apply translated text from tables into the main document within diagrams/other items as necessary.
  • Review and correct formatting of translated file, once exported from the CAT tool, so that is ready for delivery to client and/or submission.
General
  • Work within a busy environment, meeting daily deadlines and KPIs.
  • Report any issues found that may impact the quality of the output document to Project Coordination team to discuss next steps.
  • Adhere to feedback and direction from colleagues in the Linguistic and Project Coordination teams to improve output quality.
  • Update work instruction guidelines on requirements and tips on processing OCR satisfactorily
  • Suggest improvements in ways of working to help streamline processes.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
  • Previous experience in formatting desirable.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office applications, Word, Excel, Powerpoint
  • Knowledge of OCR tools, such as Abbyy FineReader and Kofax Power
  • Knowledge of CAT Tools and translation management systems useful but not essential.
  • Familiarity with languages other than English useful, such as French, German, Chinese etc.
  • High attention to detail, rigorous and customer-oriented attitude
  • Organised and able to meet internal and customer deadlines
  • Stress resilient, flexible, and adaptable
