Job Description

*Consulted and Involved in the selection, management, development, problem solving, and assurance of defect-free performance of the assigned direct material supplier chain. The objective of this work is to collaborate with the supplier and shadow and partner with other resources at Cummins to support the use of quality improvement tools and methods aimed at the achievement of zero defects performance. Participates as a team member in the supplier evaluation, selection, and strategic sourcing process development with coaching and guidance. Assists in the supplier corrective action process including containment, fault tree analysis / identification of assignable cause, root cause analysis, and permanent corrective actions with oversight and guidance. Assists suppliers on the use of quality tools especially the Product Parts Approval Process. Collaborates with suppliers to ensure all product requirements are understood and met, and coaches supplier to meet the requirements of the Cummins Supplier Handbook with guidance from others. Reviews the supplier quality resources for low risk new product introduction and current products to reduce supplier related issues, improve process capabilities, and ensure timely project launches. Responsible for determining that all requirements are met by the supplier for new or changed products with coaching and guidance from others and are typically focused on Value Package Change Requests and associated Production Part Approval Process requirements with some involvement on low risk Value Package Introduction and related Advanced Product Quality Planning activities. Understands the measurement of supplier quality performance according to established procedures and collaborates with suppliers to identify appropriate improvements to meet established targets. Supplier Technical Manufacturing Management - Represents Cummins to our external direct material supply chain by being the technical interface for assuring and improving the supplier s ability to manufacture products that meet the Cummins product definition while meeting the quality expectations defined by Cummins operation(s), their customers, and the requirements of the Cummins Supplier Handbook.Education, Licenses, CertificationsCollege, university, or equivalent degree in Engineering or a related technical or scientific subject required.This position may require licensing for compliance with export controls or sanctions regulations.ExperienceMinimal level of relevant work experience required.Key deliverables of the role are:-Participates in the supplier evaluation, selection, and strategic sourcing and development processes.- Responsible for supplier corrective action situations including containment, fault tree analysis / identification of assignable cause, root cause analysis, permanent corrective actions, and overall effectiveness of the problem-solving process.-Oversees the supplier quality resources for our most challenging new product introduction and current products to reduce supplier related issues, improve process capabilities, and ensure timely project launches.-Responsible for determining that all requirements are met by the supplier for new or changed products and the execution of the Production Part Approval Processes and the Advanced Product Quality Planning processes, including elements of Early Supplier --Engagement and Zero Defects Mentality medium to high risk Value Package Introduction projects.-Leads the measurement of supplier quality performance according to established procedures and is responsible to drive appropriate improvements to meet established targets.-Responsible to lead the continuous improvement activities with suppliers in their efforts to reduce defects.-Utilizes Cummins product functional and manufacturing technology knowledge in the execution of their role with suppliers, and represents their assigned suppliers technical processes and capabilities in internal technical discussions such as Drawing Quality Reviews, manufacturability reviews, etc- VPI SQIE Lead interface with Manufacturing plant as well as Sourcing, Engineering and Program management core teams.
