Job Description

    The Role Responsibilities The Climate Risk Advisory and Net Zero Portfolio Management Director Role is part of the ESG Client Risk Management (ECRM) team responsible for managing and advising on climate risk, including portfolio management, across CCIB. They will be responsible for the following:
    • Using CCIB clients current Climate Risk profile to support origination opportunities and steer the CCIB portfolio in line with the Group s Net Zero commitments.
    • Contributing to a Climate centre of excellence within CCIB and advising front-line teams and clients interpreting validated climate scenarios, tools and methodologies.
    • Providing input and challenge to existing models.
    • Providing climate risk advisory analysis, solutions and support to front-line teams and clients on their journey to Net Zero.
    • Contributing CCIB inputs into Climate Stress Testing, Climate Reporting and Climate Regulatory consultations.
    • Implementing a portfolio approach to transition finance opportunities that takes into consideration the SF corporate plan, the bank s Net Zero roadmap (including $300bn 2030 target) and our approach to environmental and social risk management.
    • Working closely with Global Industries Group and regional business heads to prioritise and segment clients into climate readiness and support on actionable opportunities
    • Contributing to a proactive and holistic climate transition risk and opportunity value proposition for prioritised clients
    • Identifying transition finance opportunities at a portfolio level aligned with the bank s net zero roadmap and translating these into sector and client level outputs
    • Working closely with Credit Portfolio Management in the development of an OtD model for transition assets
    The role sits within the Group s broader Sustainable Finance team which serves as a centre of excellence on a broad set of ESG topics, providing thought leadership, strategic advice and transaction support for SCB s clients. Sustainable Finance sits within the Commercial, Corporate and Institutional Bank and works with product and coverage teams to identify and deliver on ESG-related advisory and product opportunities. Strategy
    • Works closely with the MD, Climate Risk Advisory and NZ Portfolio Management to pro-actively manage climate-related risks and formulate a best in class advisory and client risk management offering.
    • Works closely with the Climate Risk Management team on prudential aspects of climate risk and the impact climate risk has on CCIB.
    • Works closely with the Transition Acceleration Team to prioritise transition origination efforts
    • Works closely with Credit Portfolio Management to deliver our originate to distribute ( OtD ) capabilities in transition assets
    • Works closely with the wider SF and ECRM team supporting coverage and product leaders to analyse and understand the external landscape and identify prospective opportunities to address customer needs and accelerate CCIB growth in Climate / Transition Finance.
    • Works closely with key external bodies in the development of pathways, alliances, etc to achieve Net Zero.
    Business
    • Be able to work with relationship teams to develop client transition plans that support decarbonisation with the Bank s products and services
    • Be able to analyse and translate climate risk data into opportunities and client insights
    • Provide support to industry origination teams by providing insight into climate finance structures, environmental and social risks and developing regulations.
    • Interpret and synthesise climate research and developments into meaningful and tangible actions for CCIB clients.

    • Support creation of a systematic approach to using Climate Risk data to drive origination opportunities and portfolio steering decisions.

    • Work to develop a centre for excellence within CCIB for climate risk advisory

    • Work closely with Climate Risk Management to understand climate tools and methodologies and use these to support risk management and origination efforts across CCIB.
    • Safeguard the Bank against reputational risk by proactively developing climate advisory capabilities that are in line with global industry best practices
    • Encourage good and proactive management of environmental, social, regulatory, reputational, ethical and governance risk across CCIB
    Governance
    • Ensure compliance with the Sustainable Finance governance structure and environmental and social risk management policies.
    • Awareness and understanding of the regulatory framework in which the Group operates and the regulatory requirements and expectations relevant to the role.

    Our Ideal Candidate
    • Degree (BA or equiv)
    • 8+ years banking experience, ideally with a minimum of 1+ years in ESG / Climate / Sustainability
    • Knowledge of the climate regulatory landscape
    • Knowledge of environmental and socials risks
    • Ability to promote good teamwork, collaboration and management of conflict across stakeholders
