Job Description

    Water resources engineers develop and execute plans for developing water systems that provide clean, safe water in an efficient way that is also good for the planet. They play a central role in civil and commercial construction projects that involve water distribution.What does a water engineerWater engineers work on projects such as flood defense schemes and sewer improvement programmers at all stages, from conception and planning to completion and handover. Typical responsibilities include:producing designs, both initial outlines and full plans, of sewerage, water treatment and flood defense structures such as pump systems and pipe networksmanaging and maintaining water and sewerage infrastructure operationspresenting project details and technical information to colleagues and clientswriting reportsmanaging project budgetskeeping up to date with changes in regulatory legislation and guidelineswriting and advertising tender documents and managing contractsliaising with clients, contractors, government agencies, local authorities and suppliersmonitoring flood levelssupervising staff and site workersusing a variety of specialist computer applications/simulation softwareensuring that projects keep to budgets and timescalesmaintaining an awareness of current environmental issues.
