Job Description

Description and RequirementsFrom core to cloud to edge, BMC delivers the software and services that enable over 10,000 global customers, including 84% of the Forbes Global 100, to thrive in their ongoing evolution to an Autonomous Digital Enterprise.Position DescriptionThe Staff Information Developer is a writing member of the IDD team with responsibility for updating content for enterprise software products for platform and application software.Responsibilities Include:

  • Contribute to the development of high-quality technical documentation by working with writers and engineers to scope, design, edit, and publish technical content as directed by lead information developers and more senior writers.
  • Interactively contribute to the documentation creation and maintenance process.
  • Under direction from IDD management and lead information developers, take ownership of the documentation for a product or product area.
  • Work with reviewers and editors to ensure that content is technically accurate, appropriate for the intended audience, and consistent with BMC product documentation standards.
  • Make recommendations to improve technical information based on the needs of the target audience. Make recommendations to improve the content model, style, and structural elements of BMC documentation. Initiate and recommend creative ways to improve technical information deliverables and processes. Use creative approaches to solving problems.
  • Gain awareness of customer issues and documentation usage from a customer perspective through field reports and IDD customer feedback.
  • Balance work volume and quality, and appropriately escalate issues to management.
  • Participate in the collaboration with senior writers and editors in all locations to ensure adherence to the prescribed style guide for the seamless flow of information to our customers.
  • Assist with monitoring problem tracking to identify documentation problems or changes and trends in product usability issues.
  • Work with lead information developers and editors to understand concepts for optimizing documentation.
  • Assist with the initiation and recommendation of creative ways to improve technical information deliverables and processes.
  • Maintain a good working relationship with individuals internal and external to IDD and BMC.
Position Requirements
  • Experience writing technical documentation for enterprise software audiences
  • Hands-on experience with accepted team collaboration, authoring and publishing tools
  • Demonstrate communication and interpersonal skills with ability to work with global and culturally diverse departments and groups
  • Ability to quickly learn new technologies and software applications
  • Ability to handle multiple projects
  • Recent experience developing documentation with a wiki authoring tool
  • Experience writing documentation for mainframe technologies or applications
