The Red Hat OpenShift team is looking for an experienced developer to join us as a Senior Software Engineer to enhance our Operator SDK team. In this role, you will work in one of the top Kubernetes teams industry-wide. You can help us push features forward in the upstream community and assist us in ensuring the Red Hat OpenShift Kubernetes foundation is solid. You will be a key member of our OpenShift team and focus on the creation and standardization of Kubernetes application operators. You ll help us provide a service that will change how development is done, using the power of Red Hat s technologies and services hosted in the cloud. As a Senior Software Engineer working as part of the Operator SDK team, you will contribute to our mission by bringing legacy applications and workloads to the cloud using Kubernetes in a cloud-native way and harnessing the power of Operators. Youll need to be able to work in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment with the goal of making our end users and customers more effective with every release. Develop new features and operator patterns and optimize tooling for operator developers and system administrators. Successful applicants must reside in a state where Red Hat is registered to do business. What you will do
    • Create and guide new feature development; contribute to high-profile and strategic open source projects in Kubernetes SIGs
    • Provide support for your component and code in production for internal and external customers
    • Improve current solutions and workflows; prefer appropriately simple, repeatable solutions over more complex and failure-prone ones
    • Work closely with engineers on Red Hat OpenShift and Operator Framework team to provide seamless developer experience
    • Use your excellent communication skills to communicate with other Red Hat OpenShift engineers, product managers, and management across the globe
    • Serve as an engineering contributor to Operator SDK and the Operator Life Cycle Management teams and Red Hat OpenShift to deliver the functionality needed
    • Communicate and work effectively with all levels of associates, including senior management
    • Document and demonstrate solutions by developing documentation, diagrams, code comments, and clear code where necessary
    • Collaborate with other engineers across the Red Hat OpenShift engineering team and work alongside members of the Cloud Native Computing Foundation (CNCF) and the Operator Framework while contributing to upstream Kubernetes open source projects including Kubebuilder and Controller Runtime
    • Mentor and coach engineers and interns to help them achieve their sprint commitments
    • Demonstrate engineering best practices by doing code reviews and one-on-one pairing sessions
    • Problem-solve, lead architecture discussions, and communicate and estimate deliverables for dates, feature requirements, and roadmaps
    • Communicate with end users through Slack, GitHub, Google Groups, Jira, and email
    What you will bring
    • Solid experience working in a software engineering role
    • Expertise with the command line and Bash scripting
    • Experience with Linux operating systems
    • 5+ years of experience writing code in either Go, Java, or equivalent
    • Good written and verbal communication skills in English
    • Problem-solving and troubleshooting skills, including performing root cause analysis
    • Ability to delegate and prioritize multiple tasks
    The following are considered a plus:
    • Solid understanding of the Kubernetes ecosystem, Control Plane components, and architecture
    • Experience working with Red Hat OpenShift
    • Knowledge of distributed systems
    • Record of contributing to an open source project or community including Kubernetes special interest groups (SIGs)
    • Graduate of computer science or software engineering or equivalent work experience
    • Presentations skills and public speaking skills for conferences and demos
    • Enjoying solving challenging problems and working with emerging technologies
