Job Description

Research Analyst IKeep abreast of current in automotive industry news and interpret market trends, with special attention to medium- and heavy-commercial-vehicles. Demonstrate depth and breadth of auto industry knowledge to customers through written analytical reports; forecast datasets; in-person meetings; and special consulting projects.Responsibilities:

  • Researching and analyzing Class 4-8 commercial-vehicle sales or production trends in assigned global markets and representing this scope of knowledge to clients in forecasts, custom reports and intelligence briefings.
  • Using specialized knowledge of the commercial-vehicle market in assigned markets to enrich the IHS Automotive databases and cascade actionable information to other teams requiring commercial-vehicle analysis within IHS.
  • Understanding and applying IHS Automotive forecast methodologies; effectively utilizes IHS tools and data sources to form sound forecast conclusions; effectively utilize IHS databases; Supporting forecast assumptions with clients in a constructive manner.
  • Specific sales or production forecast tasks will include working with our other truck analysts to determine overall levels of new-vehicle demand; understanding and predicting shifts in individual manufacturer build rates; and anticipating demand for individual vehicle nameplates.
  • Providing commentary with analysis and rationale supporting vehicle forecasting.
  • Networking with contacts in the automotive market to validate data.
  • Ensuring that all services for which responsibility is held are produced and maintained at the highest quality levels and consistently delivered on a timely basis
  • Providing analytical support to clients both face to face and by phone.
  • Supporting the sales and marketing efforts of the organization.
Required education & experience:
  • A bachelors degree, preferably in economics, statistics, business, or marketing is required.
  • 3-4 years experience in automotive research or forecasting or at least several years deep knowledge in the automotive industry with a solid understanding of the commercial-vehicle market.
  • Fluency in written and spoken English at a business level is a must. Other languages a plus.
Other skills:
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Excel and PowerPoint.
  • Attention to detail & initiative.
  • Academic or practical knowledge of basic statistics (correlation, regression) a plus but not required.
