Senior Engineering Manager

Job Description

The vacancy is for a highly motivated Engineering Manager who will be responsible for end-to-end delivery of software & data products (systems, applications and platforms) on public Cloud (AWS) for use by FIL s investment teams, sales & marketing, client servicing and distribution teams. As a delivery/engineering manager in FIL s ISS Technology team, you will play a key role in FIL s global Data transformation programme working with senior business leaders, product owners and engineering teams within Fidelity International & its partners to deliver a new technology platform to support the ISS Vision & strategy roadmap.The right candidate will provide thought leadership to
• Favourably maintain the product s engineering proposition in line with business strategy & objectives, including the total cost of ownership and competitive differentiation that it can help create
• Influence business and technology stakeholders
• Facilitate clear communication and collaboration
• Develop and understand the vision/roadmap for independent evolution of multiple products
• Understand global investment management landscape
• Understand modern programming and testing constructs and be able to leverage the best methodology for the product(s)
• Lead, develop and work with a high performing, self-organised & cross functional team
Key ResponsibilitiesDelivery
• Convert large quantities of business inputs into insightful recommendations and a compelling product vision in the asset management context
• Deploy Agile delivery methods, eXtreme programming, elastic infra/Cloud preference, micro-services enabled APIs and 12-factor app principles, working in a largely DevOps culture, to deliver great products
• Work towards achieving a relatively constant and predictable velocity and frequent smaller releases to deliver business value. Force deliberate conversations to constantly balance the agility vs technical debt trade-offs.
• Exercise ownership of the products starting from ideation till expiry, using the DevOps model with as less hand offs as possible
• Deliver features with high test automation and ensure deployments into production on demand and independent of interfacing products
• Work collaboratively with other product/program managers and keep business stakeholders sufficiently involved during delivery of features.
• Develop real time and shared information delivery mechanisms like build radiators, dashboards and health metrics.
• Monitor the delivery metrics to spot trends and take appropriate actions in the spirit of relentless pursuit of quality
Engineering
• You will be accountable to accelerate our engineering initiatives which will evolve over a period of time, constantly embrace change and be a leader for driving your set engineering goals.
• You will be a principal advocate for progressive ways of working and engineering approaches including but not limited to; Agile, Test & Deployment Automation, Test Driven Development and the use of Open and Inner source
• You will be responsible for exploring the newer areas of engineering like K8s, Multi cloud, practical exit strategies, container engineering, observability etc and will develop Subject matter expertise in your specialization area (K8s, cloud at this moment of time)
• You will act like a buddy / coach who will be facilitating adoption of engineering practices like cloud, K8s, IaC, Inner source, codelabs while working closely with architecture and leading the delivery team
• Be aware of contemporary industry & competitive practices, products and strategies in the asset management & Investment management domains and use this knowledge to evolve the products
People
• Create, lead & develop a product team comprising of multiskilled people

• Be the senior counsel in the department and contribute materially into other departmental and organisational initiatives
Experience and Qualifications
• Overall 12-15 years experience with at least 5 year experience in software engineering, delivery & product management, handling small to mid-sized teams
• Hands-on candidates are preferred for the role
• Strong leadership and communication skills and the ability to teach and learn from others
• Experience delivering technology change in investment data space and delivery of production applications on public Cloud
• Ability to work collaboratively with others and navigate complex decision making
• Experience in delivering and maintaining products (including 3rd party vendor apps) with cross geography teams is a plus
• Good working experience delivering enterprise applications across technology stacks like modern programming languages (like Java, .Net, Python etc), Integration technologies (MQ, WMB), Data (Oracle, Informatica, DB2, Cassandra, MongoDB etc), Cloud (AWS, Pivotal Cloud Foundry, Azure etc) and DevOps tools (Splunk, NewRelic, Geneos etc)
• Operate largely independently, with minimal guidance and monitoring. Proven ability to work well under pressure and in a team environment.
