About this role This Job Matters as it provides technical expertise, delivering software solutions that provide business value and meet customer requirements, including necessary designs, documentation, automated testing, deployment and in-life support. The role leads a SRE team transforming and operating technology platforms by delivering technology solutions and automations to underpin critical customer services. Any outage would have a major impact on BT s ability to trade and service its customers. You will be an hands-on software leader and lead by example for your team of Software Engineers, who will input into your authoritative technical recommendations to technology solutions and automations to enable application support teams to reduce Toil and deliver commitments on service level objectives, that balance deliverable commitments, unit strategic decisions on software engineering, and operational performance Youll have the following responsibilities The ideal role holder has 3-8 years of experience working in high agile environment building/supporting high growth products run on highly scalable platforms The ideal role holder will be part of a very rapidly evolving Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) team aligned to a technology focus area. Youll have the following skills & experience Technical Skills
• Infrastructure-As-A-Code: Past experience working in the IaaC solutions (Ansible,Terraform,Cloudfromation)
• APM Tools: Past experience working in APM Tools (Splunk, Dynatrace,Datadog,Appdynamics any one)
• Automation: Past experience in eliminating TOIL using automation solutions. Knowledge of any one programming language Java, Python.
• DevOps: Past experience working in a DevOps setup enabling engineers with solutions to deliver/deploy/monitor code in Live using DevOps tooling to enable Continuous Delivery practices. Knowledge of Jenkins, Git, Docker (knowledge on Kubernetes preferred)
• Cloud: Past experience working in Cloud environments having dealt with either migrations or green field implementations. (AWS/GCP preferred)
Experience you would be expected to have :
• Commercial & Risk Awareness: Experience in evaluation of the obvious and subtle commercial risks/issues/challenges especially in relation to a programme/project. Experience in determining the appropriate commercial solutions.
• Software Development Concepts: Proficiency with the use of a wide range of programming concepts including (but not limited to): recursion, multi-threading, memory management, garbage collection. Aware of and has applied a range of algorithms, for example related to sorting and searching.
