Job Description

• Technology Infrastructure Services (TIS) is responsible for managing all infrastructure components, supporting business delivery projects and delivering TIS projects. The function is divided into six core disciplines:
• Service Management - Responsible for managing our Customers, Service Desk & proximity services, Incident & Problem Management and Application Infrastructure.
• Delivery Support - Responsible for supporting the delivering of business change initiatives, which includes project, small works, environment management and other non BAU tasks.
• Technology Control Responsible for protecting the Infrastructure Environment includes Security Management, Risk and Audit Management, Change Management and Disaster Recovery.
• Architecture and Engineering Responsible for Technology Architecture and engineering solutions, in line with Technology roadmaps.
• Operating Environment responsible for maintenance and fault resolution on Platforms, Storage, Messaging and Data Centre Services.
• Network & Voice responsible for maintenance and fault resolution on Network, Voice and Firewall, managing commercials and financials, and delivery of TIS projects, within technology domain.
• Application infrastructure Responsible for maintenance of the application infrastructure layer that involves middleware, database, application deployments and managing internal applications.
Purpose of your roleThe Senior Technical Consultant will be responsible for the technical and solutions engineering of the PaaS platform in accordance with the strategy set by the PaaS Product Owner & Enterprise Architecture. Working as part of a technical Product team, the Senior Technical Consultant will provide innovative & insightful solutions to business challenges to ensure the PaaS platform maintains its SLAs and continues to evolve.The Senior Technical Consultant will be expected to look for opportunities to collaborate with all FIL teams, especially Delivery leads & engineers to ensure the PaaS platform remains a viable solution for them. They will offer best practise trusted advisor consultancy to these colleagues in building cloud native applications & making the most of what the PaaS platform has to offer. This will include offering advise on Security and Site Recoverability Engineering best practise.The Senior Technical Consultant will play a key role in ensuring the PaaS platform can be designed & operate from within a public cloud provider (AWS) in support of the FIL Cloud Strategy.Key ResponsibilitiesThis position requires a strong developer & infrastructure mindset with full hands on engineering capability across the entire PaaS stack. To be a flexible, approachable self-starter with a sound grasp of the wider architectural & security considerations when working in a regulated environment.
• Interpret business requirements & design these into practical, secure and cost effective solutions that effectively ensure the PaaS platform continues to be a viable solution for business applications.
• Enable customers to understand & use the PaaS services in the most effective way to realise business benefit quickly using all means possible supported through a global operating engineering product framework, coaching effective software development lifecycles.
• Engineer quality based deliveries with full transparency to the PaaS team working as a cohesive, global unit.
• Identify & remediate issues quickly to ensure the PaaS platform meets its SLA.
• A mentor to help others within the team & across FIL on their cloud journey.
Experience and Qualifications RequiredThe ideal candidate will have
• A strong development & infrastructure engineer with hands on experience of Cloud Foundry/BOSH operating across different clouds (off/onprem) proficient in Python & Go, focusing on delivering services that are loosely coupled, highly scalable & coded to cope with failure at every level.
• Excellent knowledge of container based technologies having built & managed scalable Production Kubernetes cluster services.
• Excellent knowledge of AWS public cloud services having developed & managed cloud native applications across different regions.
• Excellent knowledge of creating & managing continuous delivery pipelines enabling continuous integration using test driven development with high coverage in a multi-tenant, full stack Production enterprise cloud configuration where rolling intra-day upgrades are BAU, security & audit requirements are met by default.
• The ability to translate business requirements into realistic architectural designs, offering pragmatic, cost effective options founded from experience of creating & developing secure enterprise cloud services.
• A responsible engineer who views TDD & software engineering as a craft with experience or special interest in infrastructure as code through automation & continuous delivery.
• A versatile engineer who has exposure of networking, virtualisation & all aspects of security having deployed to multiple cloud environments.
• A team player who is confident to mentor more junior members & train others. - Comfortable working with application developers to adopt cloud native principles. Eager to share knowledge & extend capabilities into new technologies.
• A trusted advisor who is forward thinking, supportive of successful delivery & achievement comes from collaborative team effort with strong communication skills.
• A keen evangelist with interests in technology, security, cloud native application development and an active open source contributor.
