About the opportunityPurpose of your roleThis role is for an experienced Technical Specialist (Web Services) to work within the Investment Platform Product development team. The successful candidate will be expected to gain knowledge on Sonata services and take design decisions for ongoing Strategy project. The candidate should have good knowledge on webservices (centred on both spring boot & J2EE) in a WebSphere & cloud environment. One should have ability to guide development team.If needed, the candidate will also be required to help resolve any critical production issues on Services that the team own - this places the candidate in a front line position with considerable business user interaction. As such, the role requires a high level of flexibility and the ability to work under pressure.Excellent written and verbal communications skills are essential to communicate effectively and appropriately to both business users and systems colleagues at all levels.The role requires close working with colleagues in the UK offices, and as such the candidate may be required to work UK business hours sometimes.On occasions the candidate may also be required to work extended hours/weekends to cover changes and release implementations, for example.This demanding role would perfectly suit a dynamic individual looking to work in a fast paced environment to ensure the smooth running of business critical systems.Key Responsibilities
• Work with delivery architects to review the best solution to problems
• Ensure development quality standards are met
• Own and deliver technically sound solutions for the assigned project (s)
• Provide regular updates and reporting to project managers
• Highlight risks and issues in a prompt and timely manner and give clear and concise details of resolutions
• Interact with customers to understand their problems, provide solutions or workarounds
• Produce technical documentation to assist team members
• Ownership of problems from first notification through to resolution
• Performing code reviews, impact analysis and estimation for any changes required
• Identify problem areas and escalate where necessary
Experience and Qualifications
• 7 - 10 years
Essential Skills / Experience
• Hands on experience in Core Java and J2EE development preferably in WebSphere 8 or higher environment
• Experience in designing and implementing both synchronous and asynchronous micro-services using spring boot
• Understanding of cloud first principles
• Understanding of basic cloud services of any cloud provider like Pivotal CloudFoundary, IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud
• Experience of designing and implementing Web Services (SOAP, REST, WS-*)
• Good experience in use of Spring, Hibernate, JDBC, SQL, JSON, XML, XML Schema Design
• Experience with Oracle (preferably Oracle 12c), stored procedures, queries
• Experienced in performing code reviews and providing estimation
• Experience of using source code management tools, e.g. GIT/SVN/Clearcase
• Good understanding of Development Methodologies like Test Driven Development
• Appreciate the business principles involved in a project
• Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
• Ability to think laterally, an enquiring mind with good analytical and problem-solving capabilities
• Display a flexible attitude; be able to thrive in an ever-changing environment.
Desirable Skills / Experience
• Any working experience on any private or public cloud like Pivotal CloudFoundary, IBM Cloud, AWS, Azure, Google Cloud is an added advantage
• Good knowledge of UNIX, Shell Scripting, Ant, u-deploy (or similar) and experience of continuous integration
• Experience with JMS/WMB /IIB
• Experience on PAAS
• Experience on any RIA framework (Backbone, React or Angular)
