DevOps EngineerJob DescriptionDepartment overview:Data Services for Valuations team builds services to the DDVS (Valuations) division in IHSMarkit. Work will be primarily on developing and extending the current services in Java and other JVM languages as well as working on the AWS resources and infrastructure. Good opportunity to work on an interesting mix of business-critical financial data services (modelling financial data and streaming processes to create optimal services) as well as working on the scalable and cloud-based technology platform to support the micro-services framework in place.The DSV development team is in growth phase and currently consists of developers, product and testers located in the London, New York and Noida offices.Position summary:DSV is looking for a strong hands-on systems developer to work with the DSV microservices platform in collaboration with the internal DevOps teams.The candidate will work closely with global cross-functional teams across Development, QA, Technology, Infrastructure Business Analysis and Project Management to ensure project deliveries. The candidate would be required to work closely with the key stakeholders and technical teams to ensure smooth and timely delivery.The candidate will be required to have excellent written and verbal communication skills, strong inter-personal, organizational / coordination skills, and hands-on experience in development / technology.As well as delivering software of high quality, candidate needs to work towards the team s goals of high test-coverage, automated and frequent deployment, and regular cycles of code delivery, testing and feedback.The candidate should be comfortable in a fast paced environment and be flexible to adapt to changes.Duties & accountabilities:Work closely with the DSV development team in London & Noida, take ownership of various components in the platform, and gain a solid understanding of how these components fit within the overall platform. Develop new software, and enhance existing software, to high-standards. Adhere to best practices that enhance user experience, usability, scalability, performance and security. Drive technology initiatives. Ensuring clear communication on status to all stakeholders including regular progress and updates to your manager, peers and leads. Establish a productive working relationship with main product stakeholders for these components. Work closely with the QA teams in London and Noida through testing cycles. Maintain and support the applications, investigating and fixing issues. Contribute to discussions and decisions regarding the DSV system architectureEducation and experience:
• Degree in Computer Science or related field from a top-tier institution.
• 3+ years of experience working on distributed Java platforms and Web Platforms
• Comfortable working with both UNIX/Linux and Windows environments
• Strong technical and platform knowledge in the Java ecosystem and broader.
• Good understanding of agile software development methodology.
• Thorough understanding of fundamental software engineering and computer science principles: object-oriented design, structured design, databases, algorithms, data structures, usability, refactoring debugging, and configuration management.
• Excellent design and problem-solving skills.
Experience good to have and will give an edge to the candidates:
• AWS Services: ECS, SQS/SNS, DynamoDB, Lambda, S3 (or similar from other cloud providers)
• Programmable Infrastructure: Terraform (or similar)
• Build/Deployment Systems: GitLab Pipelines (or similar)
• Monitoring: DataDog (or similar)
• Java Microservices Frameworks: SpringBoot (or similar)
• Java Build Frameworks: Gradle (or similar)
• Scripting Languages: Bash, Python (or similar)
Business awareness:Motivation to acquire/increase knowledge of the financial sector is essential.An understanding of derivatives is a plus.Personal impact:
