Job Description

What youll do and how youll make an impact:

  • Work closely with the Engineering group to design optimal database architecture and configure the infrastructure (S3, EC2, RDS, Backups, AWS IAM, load-balancers, VPC, subnets, security groups).
  • Update and fine tune databases in a high volume multi services environment(we have Sql Server, MySQL, Postgres and Oracle, as well as Mongo, redis, memcache, cassandra and scylladb, you will not be bored if you want to learn, at the same time, we don t expect you to lead on all of them at the same time).
  • Maintain and improve existing databases backups and disaster recovery .
  • Work to Review changes and make recommendations as necessary to developers to avoid issues and downtimes.
  • Review weekly SQL releases for the applications.
  • Support specific projects with their specific needs in terms of database and infrastructure
  • Monitor, maintain and upgrade database systems.
  • Work closely with teams in developing and integrating internal tools that interact with IaaS and DBaaS providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
  • Work with instance sizing and tuning requirements for database capacity planning.
  • Suggest and make recommendations on proven industry standard database tools to deliver database related tasks and routines.
  • Build tools to automate manual tasks and speedup processes and procedures.
  • Propose and drive improvements on the database infrastructure.
  • Suggest security, stability and performance improvements balanced with cost.
  • Provide Oncall support, as part of a rotation.

What you ll need/Assets:

  • Understanding of SQL Server and Access interactions
  • Knowledge of Windows basic stack
  • Solid working knowledge of SQL Server performance tuning
  • Solid knowledge of SQL with its internal workings to help developers troubleshoot database related issues.
  • Solid working knowledge of SQL Server, as a database administrator owning the uptime of the platform
  • Solid understanding of database high availability schemes, and impact on software deployment.
  • Solid knowledge of database versioning with tools such as Liquibase and flyway.
  • Solid working knowledge of MySQL performance tuning in a Linux environment
  • Solid knowledge of SQL and InnoDb with its internal workings to help developers troubleshoot database related issues.
  • Solid knowledge of logical and physical database design
  • Solid working knowledge of MySQL 5.6 and 5.7 with nice to have good experience working with MySQL 8.0.

Assets:

  • Experience working with other RDBMS systems like postgresql is a plus.
  • Experience with a NOSQL database system like Mongodb is a plus .
  • Solid working knowledge with DBaas providers like AWS and Azure .
  • Experience with NOSQL DBaas provider Mongo Atlas.
  • Solid working knowledge of AWS RDS (MySQL,Aurora,Postgresql).
  • Proficiency in scripting languages such as Bash and Python.
  • Experience with Monitoring tools like PMM, prometheus and splunk.
  • Experience with configuration management tool Chef, SaltStack.
