Banquet coordinators oversee and manage every aspect related to the entertainment, food, and drink at formal events such as fundraisers, wedding receptions, and conventions. They are extremely organized and excellent multi-taskers who remember even the smallest of details. Banquet coordinators typically work for event planning companies that service clients in every industry. As such, banquet coordinators are always traveling to evaluate and set up at different venues, including hotels, convention centers, and resorts. This is a skilled position that requires a bachelors degree. Banquet coordinators typically work at least full-time hours, and they are often working overtime hours, especially during the time events are held.Banquet Coordinator Duties and ResponsibilitiesBanquet coordinators work for a variety of different industries. They provide information to the clients about the services the company provides, and help clients make the appropriate decisions based on the estimated size of the event.Identify and Book VenuesAfter the banquet coordinator has determined the clients needs, they research, identify, and book the appropriate venue. This process includes traveling to different venues and speaking with venue managers to determine if the location would be a good fit.Supervise Event SetupBefore the event start usually the day of or the day before banquet coordinators supervise the setup process for the event at the chosen venue. This includes organizing seating arrangements, ensuring food and drink is easily accessible, and overseeing the technical setup for sound and microphone systems.Oversee Event ExecutionOnce the event starts, the banquet coordinator oversees the entire execution. They mostly focus on the delivery of the food and drink, ensuring it is delivered on time and to the satisfaction of the client.Evaluate Event SuccessAfter the event has ended, banquet coordinators evaluate the overall success of the event. If there were any problems with the event, banquet coordinators speak to the appropriate facilities coordinators and clients to ensure reparations are made, as necessary.
