Principal Software Engineer - Telco 5G PlatformAs a Principal Software Engineer, you ll be a part of a geographically distributed team and you will collaborate with multiple Red Hat engineering teams and open source communities around the globe. To be successful in this role, you will need to have motivation, curiosity, passion for problem solving, and experience with Linux technologies, Kubernetes, and open source development models. What you will do
• Bring telecom high availability and small footprint concepts to the Cloud-Native Network Function (CNF) platform, enabling 5G vRAN deployments
• Play a proactive role and contribute to multiple open source projects and communities like Kubernetes, Red Hat OpenShift Container Platform, Open vSwitch (OVS), and Open Virtual Network (OVN)
• Troubleshoot, analyze bug root causes, and provide resolutions
• Review design, enhancement proposals, and patches from other members of the team
• Perform systems engineering and design for performance
• Work with the quality engineering (QE) team to ensure effective and complete test coverage
• Define, contribute to, and collaborate on new system architectures
• Publicize the teams work through blogs, web postings, and conference talks
• Work across product teams to inspire future directions
What you will bring
• Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent working experience
• 7+ years of experience with Linux environment and at least one of the languages like Go Language, Python, Java, or C or C++
• Good knowledge of Linux Kernel internals and architecture with the ability to work with Linux Kernel developers to debug and resolve issues
• Comfortable working on large multidisciplinary problems and bringing together a diverse set of technical options
• Experience with Linux system programming in a distributed telecom environment
• Experience with multi-threaded programming and management of shared resources in complex environments
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English
The following are considered a plus:
• Experience with virtualization technologies like QEMU, KVM, etc.
• Experience with Real-Time Linux
• Experience with container-related technologies like Docker, cri-o, and etcd
• Familiarity with the wider Kubernetes and CNCF project ecosystem
• Experience leading or contributing to open source communities
• Previous code contributions to or participation in open source projects or code samples on GitHub
• Experience with latency sensitive workload tuning like IEQ lines, CPU pinning, NUMA affinity, etc.
• Experience with system and performance engineering analysis and a record of unlocking performance in constrained environments
• Linux networking or software-defined networking (SDN)-related development contribution
