Job Description

Position Overview:

WRI India is seeking Two Project Associates for its Flagship study on Approaches for Doubling Farmers Income in India: Agro-Ecological System-Based Considerations led by the Economics Centre in Delhi. It s a newly established Centre which strives to provide a better understanding of the value that ecosystems provide to the country s economic and social development and carry out actionable research at the intersection of environment and human well-being.

Following the format of Global Office Economics Centre, it uses an economic lens to analyze problems and solutions and develop tools and guidance for decision makers to understand economic benefits, costs, and how they are distributed across the economy and between different groups. Economic evidence and guidance are critical to catalyze action and investments on climate change, restoration of degraded lands, renewable energy buying commitments, sustainable water management, conservation of agroecological systems, protection of vital ecosystems, better management natural resources; and introduce incentive based mechanisms for a healthy and sustainable ecosystems and economic systems.

Furthermore, it is also essential to understand the economic and societal risks of inaction on climate change, loss of biodiversity and overuse of scarce natural resources.

In India, it provides the thread of economics across various programs on Climate Change, Energy, Cities, Transportation, Forestry, Air pollution and executes its own research programs.

Currently the Centre is leading WRI s flagship study, Approaches for Doubling Farmers Income in India: Agro-Ecological System-Based Considerations with the objective to explore & devise solutions for transformation in agriculture through agroecological approaches and related measures to enhance/double farmers incomes in India, thereby significantly impacting SDGs related to climate, freshwater, biodiversity & ecosystems, human health, social equity & livelihoods and addressing the NDC targets. The study also intends to explore strategies and map influential innovative interventions across the country aimed at enhancing ecosystem resilience for sustainable food production system while providing increased benefits to farmers/ farm-dependent households

Key Responsibilities

To work with and support the work relating to Flagship study at its Economics Centre which includes conducting literature review, collection of data and other evidence, assist in organizing stakeholder consultations, workshops, working on selected sites and collecting data, data analysis, develop various knowledge products. WRI globally has thorough experience in use of tools of Economic analysis cross several sectors and is widely recognized as a leader on these issues.

Qualifications:

  • Masters in Natural Resource / Environment / Forestry / Developmental Management/ Natural Resource Management with subject knowledge of Ecological Economics
  • Strong analytical capabilities and knowledge of Statistical and Ecosystem-Economic Systems Modelling Software
  • Good writing and communication skills.
  • Publications in national and international platforms /journals will be an added asset
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently as well as part of a team.
