Job Description

To provide research support for animal-testing issues in furtherance of PETA India s advocacy on behalf of animals used in government-mandated and other testingTerm of Employment:Full-timeLocation:DelhiReports to:Director, Regulatory TestingPrimary Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Independently research and interpret a variety of animal protection issues as it relates to reducing and replacing animal testing, particularly when required by regulatory agencies
  • Identify, review, and develop recommendations for non-animal test methods through analysis of scientific literature and data sources
  • Correspond with companies and government agencies and secure, attend and facilitate formal meetings with them for scientific discussion of testing
  • Attend scientific conferences and communicate with scientists on specific issues relating to animal and non-animal test methods
  • Obtain the necessary data for writing factsheets, white papers, reports, Bureau of Indian Standards recommendations, correspondence, and other documentation
  • Analyze technical papers and translate scientific terminology into lay terms for use in research projects
  • Prepare recommendations and represent the organisation in meetings with state and central government agencies, public- and private-sector organisations, scientific forums and committees, multinational companies, media, and advocacy and special-interest groups
  • Coordinate with various PETA India departments and colleagues with PETA affiliates as necessary to advance PETA India s work to end animal testing
  • Perform any other duties, as required, in order to advance PETA India s work to end animal testing
  • Perform any other duties assigned by the supervisor
Qualifications:
  • Advanced degree in toxicology, biology or a related discipline. PhD qualification would be preferred.
  • Minimum of one year of relevant experience preferred
  • Extensive knowledge of animal-testing issues and scientific terminology
  • Familiarity with Indian and international regulatory agencies
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse groups of scientists and other stakeholders
  • Ability to analyse and interpret complex technical documents
  • Exceptional writing and research skills
  • Ability to maintain strict confidentiality at all times
  • Ability to work well under pressure and within tight deadlines
  • Ability and willingness to travel
  • Support for PETA s philosophy and the ability to professionally advocate PETA s positions
  • Commitment to the objectives of the organisation
