Job Description

*1) A perfusionist operates a heart-lung machine, which is an artificial blood pump, which propels oxygenated blood to the patients tissues while the surgeon operates on the heart. The perfusionist manages the physiological and metabolic demands of the patient while the cardiac surgeon operates on the heart.Performs functions necessary for the support, treatment, measurement, or supplementation of the cardiopulmonary and circulatory system of patients during routine and/or long term (ventricular assist and /or extracorporeal membrane oxygenation) support

  • Active participation in the Vanderbilt Cardiovascular Perfusion Technology Program as a clinical, didactic and simulation instructor
  • Performs ancillary administrative, research, and simulation responsibilities
  • This position is an educational role with requirements to teach didactic lectures and participation simulation education as well as monitor and report on the clinical progress of students in the program
