The Geospatial Development team at RMS is building a unified end-to-end workflow for geographic information in global risk management, encompassing functions from geocoding and hazard determination to map design and display. By activating the inherently geographic elements of disparate data sources, we enable teams at RMS to expose otherwise obscure connections, and our customers to extract actionable insights to apply in their business processes. You will work with advanced researchers in GIS and geostatistics to help make every risk known by making every risk found solving complex problems at multiple scales, using a massive store of physical and human-geographic data from more than 270 countries and territories around the world.The Senior Geospatial Development Engineer on our team will help create state-of-the-art commercial and consumer application solutions to understand and manage risks, from earthquakes, hurricanes, and floods, to terrorism and infectious disease. An ideal candidate will be a hard-working and creative geospatial software engineer who has experience building innovative applications at a variety of scales, from spatial models and automations to SaaS applications with microservices. Your success means the high-quality of deliverables, strong engineering practices, fast time to market and increased customer satisfaction.In this role, you will:Design and deliver innovative geospatial tools, modules, and applications to address complex geospatial challenges on a massive scaleEngage with an experienced, cross-disciplinary staff to conceive, develop, and deploy innovative enterprise and consumer productsAnalyze requirements, evaluate risks, architect solutions that delight users despite technical challengesFollow the best engineering practices, such as preparing detailed technical documentation; incorporating unit and integration testing; and enabling telemetry through logging, monitoring and alarmsFollow SaaS standards in optimizing for performance, resilience, security and cost effectiveness while following best dev-ops practicesQualifications:8+ years of experience in geospatial product or service developmentMaster s Degree in geographic information or geospatial sciences, or related computer-science courseworkSound understanding of computer architecture and CS fundamentalsDeep knowledge of spatial data representations, structures, and algorithms, with a focus on handling large geospatial datasetsExperience with data integration and conflationPassion for cartography and data visualizationProficient in one or more of the following programming languages: Java, Scala, PythonExperience with SaaS applications and environments, particularly AWS services such as S3, EC2, RDS, EKS, IAM, EMRProficient in SQL, with a good understanding of SQL-engine fundamentalsExperience with web-mapping platforms and libraries such as Mapbox, Leaflet, OpenStreetMap, or CartoDBStrong written and verbal communication skillsExperience working with geographically distributed teamsA proven ability to deliver high-quality work on tight schedulesPreferred Qualifications:Working experience in cartography, data visualization, or user-experience designExperience with geospatial databases such as PostgreSQL, PostGIS, RDS, or AthenaExperience with cloud-native geospatial services and libraries such as GDAL, Rasterio, COG, or STACExperience with distributed processing pipelines such as ECS, Spark, Airflow, or DaskExperience with ETL tools such as FME or ogr2ogrFamiliarity with data-processing packages such as NumPy and PandasExperience with machine-learning tools such as PyTorch, Tensorflow, or Scikit-Learn,
