Job Description

    Reporting to the Chief Customer Officer, the VP of Business Strategy will build out the infrastructure, processes, and operational rigor around the Practices function within Toptal. Practices is responsible for launching, building, and growing new offerings for Toptal to bring to market, be it brand new skill areas, new verticals, or the development of go-to-market packaging based on the problems our world-class customers need solved. As a result, the VP of Business Strategy will collaborate with key Executive and SLT stakeholders across the organization, providing a data-driven and analytical approach to Toptal s continued growth in the world of exceptional talent. This leader is not one that will sit in an ivory tower; quite the contrary, this person will be rolling up their sleeves and get in the weeds with the team and the data, exhibiting true ownership over the success of the Practices team. This is a role for a team player and an analytical problem-solver, someone who can ask for the right data and interpret it to make data-driven decisions. Resumes and communication must be submitted in English.Responsibilities:In addition to building and refining the Practices organizational infrastructure, the VP of Business Strategy will own business strategy for the company. You ll be asking and answering key questions that will be set the direction for the future of Toptal s go-to-market strategy, such as: * What new practices should we launch * What is the process that guides our decision-making when evaluating areas of future investment * How do we manage all of the various practices that are at varying stages of maturity * How do we measure success and hold our leaders and teams accountable * How do we create more solutions-based offerings, and which practices are best suited for them As these high-impact decisions are made, you must be able to distill the essence of your strategies for an Executive-level audience, connecting the dots to create an Executive-level narrative that will be used to guide various other functions in the company.In the first week, expect to:
    • Onboard and integrate into Toptal; meet your colleagues.
    • Learn about Toptal s history, culture, and vision, with a focus on the state of our industry, the Future of Work, and the core messages important to Toptal.
    • Shadow critical teams throughout the organization to learn Toptal s core operations & capabilities.
    In the first month, expect to:
    • Begin developing relationships with key leaders and stakeholders across the organization.
    • Dive deeper into the operations of key teams (e.g., Sales, Talent Operations) across the company.
    • Conduct a comprehensive review of the current demand in your practice area, talent that exists already in the network, and any work we may already be doing/have done.
    • Articulate a hypothesis about where you want to take the practice (strategy) and design experiments / build execution approaches to get there.
    In the first three months, expect to:
    • Be a well-integrated member of the organization with positive relationships in Sales (Enterprise/SMB), Marketing, and Talent Operations.
    • Be in front of clients on a regular basis to hear from them firsthand.
    • Build your practice and begin positively impacting revenue growth.
    In the first six months, expect to:
    • Be well out of the planning phase and deep into the execution of your strategic plan.
    • See an impact from your involvement in early initiatives.
    In the first year, expect to:
    • Increase the growth rate of Toptal materially.
    • Continue to scale solutions to meet the ever-changing needs of our dynamic customers.
    Requirements:
    • 12+ years of increasing responsibility and impact with each role of your career.
    • 8+ years building (hiring) and managing a team.
    • 3+ years in management consulting or professional services.
    • Experience packaging, pricing, selling, and delivering compelling solutions to Enterprise and SMB customers.
    • Leadership experience with responsibility for business results in a fast-paced, multi-function environment.
    • Creative problem solver with proven results in improving processes in a business operations and/or sales environment.
    • Ability to leverage data to perform root cause analysis and address the source of issues.
    • Proven ability to develop creative solutions that result in measurable transformative outcomes that reach beyond incremental improvements.
    • Strong collaboration skills and demonstrated ability to influence and execute effectively in a cross-functional environment.
    • Impeccable organization skills and attention to detail.
    • Ability to apply effective change management principles and consider the human element of change.
    • A knack for being able to convey complex information and recommendations in a clear, logical, understandable manner to stakeholders at executive levels.
    • Excellent presentation, written and verbal communication skills.
