Job Description

The Experiences + Devices organization is critical to delivering on this mission and vision, maintaining responsibility for the end-to-end physical and digital supply chains for Microsoft s vast array of existing and next-generation hardware and software products. The Microsoft Devices Supply Chain (MDSC) organization within Microsoft is responsible for the design, manufacturing, distribution, sales, and customer support of Microsofts hardware products. The product portfolio includes HoloLens, Xbox, Surface, Surface Hub and others spanning operations in hundreds of countries across online, retail, enterprise and operator channels. This role will be a critical part of the Supply Chain Analytics team, which reports into the COO of Microsoft s Devices Organization.We are looking for an experienced applied data scientist who is interested in being part of a result driven Data Science team that will drive decisions across the many spaces within MDSC for business stakeholders. Using large amounts of data to make efficient and intelligent decisions about current and future bets, as well as providing insights into unseen patterns is critical to our business. The successful candidate will have experience working with and analyzing data from a wide range of datasets and across a breadth of big data technology platforms. We are looking for people who see challenges as opportunities, people who can look at complex problems and are able to provide actionable insights and informed decisions using advanced analytics using machine learning and statistics.

  • Reframes specific questions to provide valuable context, and frames broad or ambiguous questions into discrete, manageable problems with well-defined, measurable objectives.
  • Identifies data sources, integrates multiple sources or types of data, and applies expertise within a data source in order to develop methods to compensate for limitations and extend the applicability of the data.
  • Influences stakeholders to make product/service improvements that yield customer/business value by effectively making compelling cases through story-telling, visualizations, and other influencing tools

  • Minimum of 3-5 years of relevant work experience in Advanced analytics using machine learning and statistics or in support of (building/engineering) data workflows specific to machine learning algorithms
  • Proven ability to provide hands-on practical use of data and analytics
  • Strong background in data science orientated workflows, and engineering patterns
  • Statistics Parametric, Non-parametric tests, Multivariate, PCA, Factor analysis
  • Proven ability to translate business and product questions into analytics projects
  • Experience working with unstructured and structured data with a solid understanding of Big data solutions
  • Expert in querying and analyzing data using R, Python, SAS, SPSS, Cosmos(Scope), SQL
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders, executives and subject matter experts
Ability to work in a collaborative environment
  • Preferably an MS degree (or a PhD) in a quantitative discipline (Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Physics, Operation Research)
