Senior System Engineer - OpenShift VirtualizationPosting Location : Location CA-ON-RemotePosting date 2 days ago(6/15/2022 4:31 AM)Job ID 94582 Workday ID R-022347 About the job The Red Hat Engineering team is looking for a Senior System Engineer to join us in Ra anana, Israel. In this role, you ll be part of the Field Engineering team supporting the various aspects of Red Hat OpenShift focusing primarily on the Red Hat OpenShift Virtualization product offering. The team is responsible for a wide range of enablement and support of the virtualization offering within Red Hat OpenShift. As a part of a geographically distributed team, you will collaborate with multiple Red Hat engineering teams and open source communities. To be successful in this role, you will need to have motivation, curiosity, passion for problem solving, experience with Linux virtualization, Kubernetes, and open source. What you will do
• Serve as first contact into OpenShift Virtualization Engineering from either our support organization or any of a number of outward-facing groups
• Proactively test the involved technologies and known or planned use cases and experiment and provide proof of concept demonstrations
• Prior to each release, ensure that internal users from Field, Support, and Sales teams have access to knowledge or training on usage.
• Play an active role researching and then integrating various Kubernetes and KVM features into a unified solution, including deploying, automating, demonstrating, troubleshooting, and documenting integrations
• Develop and integrate changes in multiple projects to troubleshoot, analyze bugs, determine root causes, and provide resolutions; track suggestions and bug fixes until they are merged back to the product
• Review and validate design, enhancement proposals, and patches from other associates
• Work with the quality engineering team (QE) to ensure effective test coverage
• Publicize your work through blogs, web postings, or conference talks
What you will bring
• 5+ years of experience in systems engineering or DevOps in related field
• Experience with automation tools or scripting languages, e.g., Ansible, bash, Python
• Proficient in Linux operation and administration
• Experience with virtualization technologies, e.g., QEMU, KVM, etc.
• Experience with container related technologies like Docker, Podman, cri-o, etcd
• Ability to quickly learn new technologies
• Familiarity with open source projects and associated collaboration tools, e.g., Git workflows
• Good written and verbal communication skills in English
The following are considered a plus:
• Bachelors degree in computer science or equivalent working experience
• Experience leading or contributing to open source communities
• Experience working within an agile development framework
• Comfortable providing support and knowledge transfer for other teams as they onboard with new technologies that you are familiar with
• Experience with Red Hat OpenShift, Open vSwitch (OVS), and Open Virtual Network (OVN)
• Red Hat Certified Engineer (RHCE) or equivalent Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) knowledge
• Experience with continuous integration and continuous delivery (CI/CD) systems
• Experience with networking technology (server, switch or appliance configuration), key networking protocols, tunneling technologies, switching, and routing
• Familiarity or experience with telco technologies
