Job Description

Zeta intends to replace many legacy systems in use by banks for processing payments. Banks need to leapfrog into an era of connected devices and omnipresent commerce. Banking should become an integral part of the commerce and enterprise systems, thereby enabling seamless consumer and business transactions. The average number of interactions an account holder may have with a bank would increase to 12-15 per day in the near-term from the current average of 3-4 transactions per month. These could grow to an unimaginably large number in future. Most banking systems aren t designed for this scale. In many ways, these systems are limiting the imagination of possibilities. We want this changed fundamentally, in an inter-operable and regulatory compliant manner.We build large-scale transaction processing systems that can work with many current and future payment networks. We build applications that help banks realize the value of this new approach early. We help banks to rapidly deliver the value of these applications to their customers.The Lead Database Engineer is accountable to manage our fast-growing farm of cloud based production databases and other technologies that are essential to the operation of Zeta and associated clients. This role leads an efficient Database administrators team and closely works with operations engineers, application developers to ensure database integrity, availability, scaling, monitoring and performance.What is the Job like
• Accountable to manage Zeta s ever growing cloud based PostgreSQL and MySQL database clusters across the world.
• Lead a dedicated team of database administrators to provide high quality DBA support for Postgres and MySQL clusters across the world.
• Work closely with the Engineering Director and supervise the DBA team, delegate tasks, mentor, and encourage best practices.
• Work closely with various application development teams to ensure database changes adhere to best practices and are properly prioritized and scheduled.
• Should be hands-on supporting large-scale database running on AWS
• Proactively identify areas of optimization and troubleshoot database performance issues
• Improve service availability and scalability through tuning, automation, tools, and process
• In addition to Relational Databases, be involved in everything related to NoSQL and New SQL databases like couchDB, Yugabyte and their deployments, design, maintenance, migrations, administration, configuration, etc.
• Perform various audits of existing databases, figure out possible improvements and ways to implement them efficiently.
Who should apply for this role
• 8 to 12 years hands-on experience on various relational databases with PostgreSQL as primary skillset.
• Experience in Database Administration configuration, backup/restore, replication, etc. Experience with databases of large sizes which are in the order of 10s of TBs is a plus
• Experience in mentoring a team of database administrators.
• Experience in performance optimization techniques
• Bachelors degree in Computer science or equivalent
• Excellent Troubleshooting and Communication skills
• Mandatory : Exceptional knowledge of PostgreSQL (experience with MySQL is a plus).
• Ability to solve problems, make sound decisions and use good judgement
• Experience in any one of the scripting languages (bash, python)
• Experience in automating DBA activities using Terraform technologies.
