We, the Azure Core Compute team in IDC, pride ourselves in working without boundaries to deliver the cloud platform capable of running any workload. And we mean ANY! Think of any large Microsoft service; Teams, Bing, Exchange, Xbox, SQL Azure, Office 365, HDInsight, COSMOS DB . Or customers such as Accenture, Adobe, Walgreens, Walmart, Flipkart, In-Mobi and the multitude of the large/medium/small shopping, banking, finance, gaming, logistics, enterprises, data analytics/management, storage services of the world. They run on infrastructure we build.As the owners of the platform that runs such a diversity of applications, we need to guarantee QoS for our customers. Metrics like uptime/availability/reliability and service performance take on a new meaning at the scale we operate. Our customers want 5 9 s+ of availability, transparent maintenance & updates to their systems, resiliency of their workloads despite H/W and system failures that happen all the time in the datacentre, ability to deploy & dynamically scale large number of VMs/containers reliably. Ensuring the QoS at scale requires us to architect and build systems across all layers and we work on architectural improvements across the entire Azure Core stack (Azure Compute Manager, Azure Host OS and Host Agent, Compute Resource Provider, Azure Networking etc) to achieve the SLAs.You:Are curious, looking for opportunities to learn and adapt.Are passionate about making customers successful.Are into solving challenging/innovative technical problems with an iterative and measurable approach.Bring a diverse/fresh perspective in what you do.We:Are the team for you!As the leader in this role for Azure Core, you will own the vision to build and operate world class E-E intelligent engineering systems & services which help achieve measurable improvements in the platform experience for our customers and to the quality of the platform itself. You will architect and build this engineering platform to scale with the growth and increasing complexity of the Azure Core platform. Achieving this vision is central to our goal of establishing Azure as the world s computer for running customer workloads and retaining customer trust.Every change to the Azure Core platform, whether it is code, configuration, hardware, software, firmware for the management/control/data planes will be gated by the systems you build and cannot go into production without a Bill of Quality that the systems generate. While the initial goal is to help gate & guarantee platform availability and performance, the system will expand to measure and gate other aspects such as scale, security, resiliency, and fault tolerance.To accomplish this at cloud scale with the variety of scenarios that the Azure platform supports and with quick turnaround requires innovative approaches beyond traditional methods. Learning production patterns & configurations, intelligently replaying/simulating combinations of these in a Test-In-Production (TiP) environment and measuring deviation using A/B comparison using AI/ML techniques will be key to the success of this system. You will partner with the Data Science team to come up with the approaches and engineer the systems for replay & simulation.In addition, we are pivoting Azure towards a workload-first cloud and providing a workload focused experience to customers. The systems you build and operate will form the underpinnings of this transformation and enable customers to evaluate workload types across different industries, certify workloads and the Azure platform for their use and simplify the customer journey in Azure.The position requires very strong customer obsession in understanding customer experience and driving efforts in the platform to improve this experience. It also requires a strong One Microsoft way of thinking in collaborating with multiple customer-facing and engineering teams across geos to deliver strong results.You will also:Bring clarity, create energy, and drive results you ll set a vision, rally the team behind it, and deliver for our customers.Demonstrate the Microsoft manager attributes of coach, model, and care with the engineers on your team, so they all learn, grow, and succeed.Plan and prioritize work for your team, including collaborating with partner organizations.Create an inclusive environment that attracts and retains high-performing engineers., 12+ years of experience in commercial software development.

• 4+ years minimum experience in a leadership position managing enterprise platform, product, or services teams BS/MS/PhD in Computer Science or equivalent industry experience Experience in building, shipping and operating reliable, distributed systems software
• Ability to engage in site-reliability engineering practices. (Required)
• Commitment to collaboration and teamwork and ability to deliver via influence.
• Demonstrated problem solving and debugging skills.
• Experience building RESTful services.
• Experience developing software hosted in Azure, AWS, or other similar Cloud platforms (Strongly preferred)
• Experience with CI/CD pipelines, open-source stacks such as Terraform/Ansible/Chef/Puppet (Strongly preferred)
