Job Description

    Job summaryAmazons Financial Technology team is looking for a passionate, results-oriented, inventive data engineering manager who can manage a data engineering team and build massively scalable and distributed systems. The ideal candidate thrives in a fast-paced environment, understands how to deal with large sets of data and transactions and will manage a team that delivers on a new generation of data systems leveraging Amazon Web Services. The candidate is passionate about technology and wants to be involved with real business problems. Our platform serves Amazons tax functions across the globe. A Data Engineering Manager (DEM) at Amazon works on real world problems on a global scale, owns their systems end to end and influences the direction of our technology that impacts hundreds of millions of customers around the world. You can expect to design flexible and scalable solutions, and work on some of the most complex challenges in large-scale computing by utilizing your skills in data processing, data structures, algorithms.     • Work with a team of engineers to understand requirements, plan, architect, design, and iteratively deliver complex systems.
    • You will work through all phases of the project lifecycle - requirements gathering, designing solutions, building new interfaces and integration with existing architectures.
    • Be very hands-on; work with others on the engineering team to manage the day-to-day development activities, participate in designs, design review and code reviews.
    • Evaluate and Build scalable, highly available and resilient applications by utilizing AWS technologies like ECS, EC2, EMR, RDS/DynamoDB/RedShift, Lambda etc.
    • Utilize Amazon tools like AWS CloudWatch for management and monitoring of platforms
    • Driving engineering best practices within the team

    • 5+ years of experience as a Data Engineer or in a similar role
    • Strong People Management experience managing a team of 6+ engineers. The candidate should have first hand experience on performance management, career growth and development of their directs
    • Experience with big data technologies, data modeling, data warehousing, and building ETL pipelines
    • Strong understanding of data management fundamentals and data storage principles
    • Must be able to solve a complex problem on their own by utilizing experience and other resources
    • Hands-on work experience on AWS technologies (Redshift, S3, Glue, Athena, etc.,)
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Exposure to any one reporting tool AWS QuickSight, Tableau, SSRS or Power BI
    • Experience working on any one modern programming or scripting language (Python, Scala, Java, etc.,)
    • Curious, self-motivated & a self-starter with a can do attitude . Comfortable working in fast paced dynamic environment.
